Gorgeous views while dining on great food. The chef salad was so good! The fries were also exceptionally good!

Stopped here for lunch while on a day trip to the area to see the fall colors. The food was great (especially the fries) and the service was okay. The view outside while eating was a plus. Overall a good option for a decent, fairly quick meal.

For breakfast, the restaurant has a plentiful, fresh hot food. I was able to call from the room and place a To Go order. It was ready in less than 10 minutes, and we walked over to pick it up. The Mountaineer breakfast lasted me 3 breakfasts in my room (I had brought a plastic container from home for leftovers for the mini-fridge). The breakfast has sausage gray and biscuits, two sausages (could have gotten bacon), two scrambled eggs, potatoes, and three small pancakes. My husband enjoyed the Valley Breakfast which came with two eggs, sausage or bacon, potatoes, and toast or biscuit. I enjoy eating in my suite at the big table or sitting outside on the balcony but calling for a To Go order is hit or miss. Sometimes, even if you call three times, no one answers. You could always go in person and wait for your order. For lunch, I went and decided to stay and dine. I got the chicken salad on a croissant. It was not the flakey croissant I was expecting, more of a round croissant looking bun. The chicken salad was plentiful and fine and not to much mayonnaise but nothing stood out either. It came with a slice of lettuce and tomato. The fries were thick steak cut fries that curled, seasoned, and double fried so they were crispy on the outside. I also got the coleslaw but it tasted like the mass produced, bulk coleslaw and was so nasty tasting that I could not eat it. I had Loretta who was nice and brought me a refill of the real ice tea. About a year ago, we had ordered To Go for the dinners and thought the food was plentiful and good. The dining room view is really nice on the 2nd floor of the pool, golf course and mountains and trees with long windows. The picture I took is actually from outside at ground level since I did not have my camera with me when I dined, but you will get an idea of the view.

Nice restaurant located at Canaan Valley Resort. The breakfast buffet is quite nice and the food is hot and good. You can choose either the cold or both hot and cold depending on appetite. All in all the service and food is good especially considering there are not a lot of options when in the valley. 20231014 Dinner with friends at the Hickory. Barb was our server, she was great and so was the food. Thanks Barb for finding the ever elusive blueberry pie.

Old style restaurant with good huge glass window view of the valley. The food was ok but nothing spectacular; the breakfast buffet was a little bit over-prices ($16.95) given its variety and quality. Service for dinner was very slow (more than 45 minutes’ wait) - despite not many people at that time.

We had the buffet. It was surprisingly great! (We’ve had many buffets and honestly typically regret having to go). Chef Jonathan definitely works hard for a great spread. The prime rib was perfect, ribs juicy and the unlimited crab was the cherry on top. What a great way to end a day on the slopes!

My wife and I went for breakfast and dinner. Both experiences were great. Great view. Staff was so so nice. Food was very good as well. The pretzels with beer cheese are a great appetizer and the croissant breakfast sandwich and custom omelet were also very good. If youre staying at the canaan resort or near by, I'd highly recommend. Ill definitely be going back.

Hickory Dining Room, nestled at 230 Main Lodge Rd in Davis, WV, offers diners a heartfelt escape into Appalachia’s natural beauty. Set within the Canaan Valley Resort, this restaurant presents expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that frame stunning views of the pool, golf course, and mountain vistas—an ideal backdrop that elevates the dining experience.

The culinary offerings are honest and hearty, reflecting classic American comfort. Breakfast is a highlight here, with generous plates like the Mountaineer breakfast featuring sausage gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and fluffy pancakes that satisfy lingering appetites throughout the day. The Valley Breakfast, with options of sausage or bacon, paired with toast or biscuits, serves as a dependable morning fuel. While the breakfast buffet is well stocked with hot and cold items, some may find its pricing on the higher end, yet it remains a go-to start for many.

Lunch and dinner present solid choices that lean into familiar flavors. The chef salad and chicken salad croissant, though unassuming, are well-executed, with the latter accompanied by thick, double-fried steak-cut fries that have earned consistent praise for their crisp seasoning and satisfying crunch. These fries are unquestionably a standout—the crisp exterior and hearty texture linger pleasantly on the palate, proving a memorable side.

Service experiences vary, but the staff that shines, like servers Barb and Loretta, help enhance visits with attentiveness and warmth. To-go orders are convenient for guests staying nearby, though communication hiccups occasionally arise. Nonetheless, many appreciate the option to enjoy Hickory’s fare from the comfort of their rooms.

What ultimately defines Hickory Dining Room is its marriage of robust, no-frills Appalachian cuisine and sweeping, serene landscapes. Though some dishes strike a moderate note in terms of innovation, the quality is consistent, the portions generous, and the views unsurpassed. For those journeying through West Virginia’s scenic valley, Hickory Dining Room remains a reliable haven to savor good, straightforward food while soaking in the mountain air and vista.
